Trunk networks enable optimum use of frequencies via a dynamic assignment of frequencies.
They also make it possible to create groups of independent users, enabling to use this technology to offer electronic communications services.
There are two possible scenarios:
- The network is used in whole or mainly (>50%) to offer electronic communications services to third parties. In that case the network will be classified in category 8B.
- Otherwise, in case of a mostly private use, the network will be classified in category 1 or 2, according to the status of the licence holder.
“Third party” means any company with no other relationship than the contract for the radio communications services and possibly a building lease contract. This excludes subsidiaries, entities within a group, contractors, subcontractors , etc.
