This draft act implements Regulation (EU) 2024/1309 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2024 on measures to reduce the cost of deploying gigabit electronic communications networks, amending Regulation (EU) 2015/2120 and repealing Directive 2014/61/EU (Gigabit Infrastructure Act).

The purpose of the regulation is to improve access to existing physical infrastructure, infrastructure sharing, civil works coordination, administrative procedures, as well as accessibility and availability of in-building physical infrastructure.

At the federal level the BIPT keeps its competence as the dispute settlement body specifically for disputes between undertakings offering public electronic communications networks, electronic communications services or associated facilities, or authorised to do so regarding access to existing infrastructure and the information to be provided about this.

The BIPT also remains competent for disputes regarding access to existing in-building physical infrastructure, upon request of undertakings providing public electronic communications networks or authorised to do so.
