In Belgium, postal users are sending and receiving fewer and fewer letters. In fact, only 22% of respondents were still sending letters in 2025, versus 41% in 2020. As for receiving letters, 84% declared that they were still receiving one letter a week in 2025, versus 90% in 2020.
Conversely, private users in Belgium are receiving more and more parcels. Indeed, two thirds of them reported receiving at least one parcel every month. Among the delivery methods, home delivery remains the preferred option for Belgians.
Both private and business users see no added value in the rapid delivery (D+1) of letter post and administrative mail. Obituaries, however, are an exception.
When it comes to locations for collecting parcels, post offices remain the preferred option, ahead of postal points.
To deal with their postal matters, whether letters or parcels, people living in rural areas are willing to travel up to 5 kilometres, whilst those in urban areas are more reluctant to travel more than 2 kilometres.
The additional services that the post and postmen can provide to socially isolated people or those with reduced mobility are services that continue to be supported by a majority of private users.
