In 2019, at the request of the minister of Telecommunications in charge at the time, the BIPT commissioned a study on the evolution of mobile data traffic and the media’s share within the Belgian mobile spectrum.
In 2024, the BIPT decided to update the study in terms of data volumes at the federal government’s request.
The results of this updated study are in line with those from 2020.
The estimated share of the media in mobile data volume was slightly adjusted: for the first, restrictive definition of the media, the share was adjusted downwards (from 4.94% to 3.12%), whilst for the second, broader definition of the media, a slight upward revision was noted (from 17.79% to 19.09%).
These findings confirm the conclusions of the original study.
