Following the entry into force of the Act of 21 December 2021 transposing the European Electronic Communications Code and modifying various provisions regarding electronic communications, which modifies Article 111/2 of the Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications (thereafter “ECA”), the BIPT would like to gather/collect contributions/input on a draft Royal Decree determining the detailed rules for applying the reimbursement of possible remaining credit within the framework of Article 111/2, § 1, subparagraph 5, of the Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications.

The Act of 16 December 2021 pertaining to the transposition of the European Electronic Communications Code and amending various provisions regarding electronic communications, amends the Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications. Article 49 specifies that the BIPT has to examine the geographic coverage of the mobile and fixed electronic communications networks capable of providing broadband services, at least every three years. This study entails both information on the current coverage and the plans for investment in the expansion or update of the network over the next three years.

Brussels, 14 January 2022 – By publishing the call for candidates, the BIPT launched the long-awaited auction of the future radio spectrum. The auction concerns the allocation of the new 5G spectrum and of the existing 2G and 3G spectrum. This auction scheduled for June 2022 will help define the mobile telecom landscape in Belgium for the next 20 years. The auction also includes a package of reserved spectrum for a possible new mobile operator wishing to enter the market.
