BIPT publishes new coverage maps and a new quality barometer

BIPT has updated its maps of the fixed and mobile Internet access in Belgium and its telecommunications services quality barometer.The fixed coverage maps, which are published with a higher degree of accuracy, enable the consumers and public authorities to monitor the fixed network development in Belgium. The quality barometer is composed of several indicators relating to the operators’ operational efficiency. It should enable consumers to compare the operators’ performance and to encourage the latter to improve the quality of their services.

In the framework of the decision of 26 May 2017 BIPT examined the market for call termination on individual mobile networks. 8 operators (Join Experience, Lycamobile, Orange Belgium, Proximus, Telenet, Telenet Group, Vectone Mobile en Voxbone) were presented as companies with significant market power. The main obligation existed in imposing a lower MTR (mobile termination rate).
