• BIPT publishes economic key figures of the postal sector for the year 2014

    Brussels, 10 December 2015 – BIPT publishes the economic key figures relating to the postal sector in the year 2014. Despite decreasing letter post volumes in 2014 total revenue in the postal sector increased, stimulated by the parcel and express mail markets, and investments continued to grow considerably. Prices of postage stamps went up and thanks to growing e-commerce the average number of delivered parcels increased.

    Brussels, 4 November 2015 BIPT reports on the checks carried out concerning the bpost retail network, the quality of information provided in post offices and Postal Points and accessibility thereof. Generally speaking the provision of information is rather good, although BIPT stresses the importance of staff training so that questions from customers can be answered correctly as well as the legal obligation to post up the applicable rates in post offices. 97% of the post offices checked are considered to be easily accessible, although accessibility of post offices and Postal Points for disabled persons is a worry.

    Brussels, 28 October 2015 BIPT publishes the results of its annual survey on the users’ perception of the Belgian electronic communications market. Overall consumers are rather satisfied. Problems they experience regard Internet and television for the most part. They state that it is not always as easy to switch telecom services bundles as it is for mobile telephony. Users want to be well informed, for instance about the tariff plan most advantageous for them or about the actual Internet speed of their connection.

    Brussels, 17 July 2015 - Today BIPT has published the annual statistics relating to the telecoms sector. The 2014 general market context shows that turnover diminished, but that operators kept on investing considerably. For the first time SMS traffic shows a decline, while the use of mobile Internet is growing significantly. Belgium stays at the top of the EU ranking for the development of high-speed fixed broadband over 30 Mbps. The Belgian digital TV market continues to grow.

  • BIPT publishes an "Atlas" of the mobile operators' coverage on his website

    Today BIPT published on its website an 'Atlas' of the coverage provided by the mobile telecom operators in Belgium. The data of the telecom operators have been collected and, following verifications or "scanning" in the field, assembled in a public and free "Atlas". As of 1 January 2016 telecom operators are obliged to provide BIPT with further data that regard the quality, such as the response time of the customer services, which BIPT will also publish on its website as a "quality barometer".
  • BIPT gives tips and tricks for mobile Internet and calling abroad

    Last week BIPT and the FPS Economy launched the www.surfmobiel.be website aimed at informing the consumer on the advantages of mobile Internet and on the proper, safe and controlled use thereof. Mobile surfing, calling, texting, or roaming is also possible from abroad and is very easy today. Roaming does not necessarily have to go hand in hand with a surprisingly high telecom invoice, but nevertheless it remains useful to keep a check on the prices and consumption. For indeed the Eurotariff does not apply outside of the EU Member States (and thus neither in certain popular holiday destinations). Therefore BIPT gives a number of tips and tricks to the travelling telecom user.
