In Belgium, the possession or use of radio equipment is subject to an individual authorisation issued by the BIPT.
The general authorisation is an exception to this principle.
Within the framework of the general authorisation system, the radio spectrum is free to use provided that the technical usage conditions set by the BIPT are fulfilled. No fee is payable for the use of the radio spectrum.
If the frequencies are used for the provision of public electronic communication networks or publicly available electronic communications services, one must first notify the BIPT, pursuant to Article 9 of the Act of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications.
The technical conditions to be met regarding the general authorisations are the frequency band and the conditions set out in the normative part of the relevant radio interface specifications.
