Since 15 June 2017, telecommunications operators can no longer charge roaming surcharges to users travelling in the countries of the EU (roaming) in addition to the national tariffs.
There are however three exceptions to that principle, among which the exemption granted by the regulator to an operator under certain conditions. Such an exemption can be granted when a roaming services provider cannot cover all the costs associated with the provision of these services.
Until 1 July 2020, Voo Mobile (subsidiary of the Nethys group) benefited from this exemption rule. It was granted for the first time on 24 May 2017, then renewed on 19 May 2018 and 13 June 2019.
Currently no Belgian operator has been granted such an exemption.
