Proximus and its joint ventures Fiberklaar and Unifiber are actively rolling out optical fibre. Where optical fibre has already been rolled out the copper network becomes superfluous and therefore Proximus has announced it wish to switch it off. The first disconnections already took place at the end of 2022.

The copper network outphasing (also called “copper switch-off”) has consequences for the alternative operators currently using the copper network. By way of this communication the BIPT wishes to facilitate the switch-off process. This communication gives information about the main points regarding the copper switch-off process, the available alternative wholesale services, the communication to both the alternative operators and the end-users, as well as the various migration costs. It is important to define a consistent approach in order to make it clear for both the alternative operators and the end-users how the copper outphasing will go and what impact it will have on them.
